The R730 features the Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 v4 product family with up to 24 DIMM slots of DDR4 RAM, with the necessary processing cycles, threads and large memory capacity to deliver more data center and cloud platforms Larger and higher performance virtual machines.

Up to 16 12 Gb SAS drives and 12 Gb high-performance PowerEdge RAID controllers (PERC9) for highly scalable storage for faster data access in your virtualized environment. In addition, the R730 utilizes the optional SanDisk® DAS Cache application acceleration technology for faster data access.
VDI and HPC

Options support up to two 300-watt dual-wide accelerators/GPUs (selectable from Intel® Xeon PhiTM, NVIDIA® Tesla®, and AMD FireProTM) to support environments that require more processing power, including graphics-intensive virtual Desktop infrastructure (VDI) implementations such as CAD/CAM and other research and development applications. 7 PCIe 3rd Generation Expansion Slots and a RAID Controller Dedicated Slot further enhance IO flexibility, making the R730 an ideal computing solution for IT as a Service (XaaS) providers and high performance computing (HPC) and medical imaging solutions node.

You can manage your system from your smartphone, laptop, or on a system that includes local management options and remote management options.
You can confidently monitor your remote system using a smartphone with the OpenManage Mobile app, or connect to the server via Near Field Communication (NFC) to access status reports and logs using the iDRAC Quick Sync feature.
You can also use the iDRAC Direct feature to upload configuration files for BIOS, iDRAC, PERC, motherboard built-in local area network (LOM) and network card (NIC) updates using a USB stick.
You can also connect your laptop to the embedded iDRAC8 management console interface of a specific server via USB for robust "system level" management.
